Location and Extent
The Riverlands is a geographic area found in the fertile southern section of the continent of Arantha, just north of the tropics. The Riverlands takes its name from the many large rivers that run through its boundaries, the largest of which being the mighty Lon and the Tonlolo Rivers. No single empire controls the Riverlands and its inhabitants at this time, although there are various factions in conflict over its lands and resources.
Humans (the Hundu) and halflings (the Din) are native to Thurlun.
Not much is known about the true history of the Riverlands as its present dwellers have only passed down an incomplete oral history, rife with legends and superstition. The Din, the native halflings, and the Hundu, a tribe of magic-wielding humans, have peacefully coexisted in these lands since times innumerable; despite their racial differences, these two groups share a common heritage.
The conflict with neighboring Kingdom of Lorandia has only come about in recent times and appears to be over the fertile lands of the river delta. Several times the Kingdom has sent its troops to occupy the delta, only to be pushed back by the magics of the Hundu and the Din.
Geographical Regions and Topography
Lon & Tonlolo Rivers
The Lon and Tonlolo rivers are two of the largest, deepest rivers in the entire continent of Arantha. Both rivers run parallel to each other, several hundred kilometers apart, and flow roughly north to south. Their origins are high up in the Valley Peaks and they run southward for many kilometers before emptying into the Emerald Sea. The Lon and the Tonlolo are seen as the givers of life as their yearly flooding brings rich nutrients to the farmland of the river confluence.
At the confluence of the Lon and Tonlolo rivers is the idyllic Jewel Bay. Named after the color of the water, which is a brilliant blue-green, the shallow Jewel Bay is open to the warm waters of the Emerald Sea.
A den of iniquity and ill-repute, Crow's Landing is the largest city in the Riverlands. Located on Jewel Island and initially settled by Hundu, Crow's Landing has become a port of call for all ships that sail through the Emerald Sea due to its calm waters and convenient location. As such, the population of Crow's Landing has far outstripped that of the mere Hundu colonists and people from all races and walks of life can be found here.
